Second Storey Additions

Great Benefits in Building Up

For attics that don’t meet the criteria for a liveable room, taking it a step further is always an option. Although constructing a whole new level is a more costly approach to adding more living space, sometimes it the only option. An extra bathroom then becomes a more feasible option.

Benefits include achieving more living space than is possible within your attic, better options for staircase positioning and enhanced views of your surroundings. Many properties around Sydney already have minimal outdoor space or backyards, so building up rather than out means preserving outdoor living areas.

There are many options in designing a second storey addition. We can assist you in creating a design that suits your needs and is aesthetically pleasing from inside and out.

Council Approval is Required

All second storey additions require approvals by council or certifying authorities and a DA or CDC process. Keep in mind that this process can take 6 to 12 months. Planning ahead is crucial to enable you to begin construction work in the time frame you are considering to build.

The existing structure must be inspected to see whether it has enough bearing capacity to take another level. Underpinning or foundation work may be necessary to avoid movement and cracking walls. An engineer report in some cases will be necessary before a quote is provided.
